There is no Polymarket token today, and Polymarket has not announced an airdrop. No launch date, no snapshot date and no eligibility rules have been published. Any website or account that lets you "claim POLY" or "check eligibility" is, as of October 2026, a scam.

What does exist is a year of hints from the company's leadership, and steady speculation that a token could reward early users. Here is what is known.

As of 20 October 2026. Token news moves fast; if you read this later, check Polymarket's official blog and X account.

What Polymarket has actually said

When Who What was said
October 2025 Matthew Modabber, chief marketing officer There will be a token and an airdrop, but the priority was relaunching in the US first
2025–2026 Polymarket's help pages The company has not announced any airdrop or token generation event
May 2026 — Polymarket US opened fully, the milestone the token was said to follow
7 October 2026 Shayne Coplan, chief executive, at TOKEN2049 in Singapore Described an onchain asset with "programmable utility" inside Polymarket, without details
13 October 2026 Bloomberg report Polymarket weighing an IPO against a native token, no decision or timetable

The honest summary: a token is plausible, the leadership has talked about one, and nothing is scheduled. Several speculative launch dates, including mid-2026, have already passed.

POL is not Polymarket's token

POL (formerly MATIC) is the token of Polygon, the blockchain Polymarket runs on. It is used to pay network fees on Polygon and has nothing to do with Polymarket's ownership or rewards. "POLY" is the ticker people expect for a future Polymarket token; it does not exist yet. Scammers rely on the confusion between the two.

Who might qualify if an airdrop happens?

Nobody outside the company knows. Crypto airdrops usually reward some mix of:

  • trading volume and the number of markets traded,
  • how long an account has been active,
  • providing liquidity (resting limit orders, market making),
  • holding positions over time,
  • profit or forecasting accuracy.

Polymarket has confirmed none of these. It is also unclear whether accounts on the separate, CFTC-regulated Polymarket US app would count, since it does not run on the same public wallets.

Should you "farm" a Polymarket airdrop?

Trading only to qualify for a possible airdrop has a real cost now:

  • Fees. Since 30 March 2026 Polymarket charges taker fees on most categories: a category rate × price × (1 − price) on every share you buy or sell with a market order (Polymarket fees). Churning volume pays that fee on both legs.
  • Spreads. Buying and immediately selling loses the gap between the bid and the ask.
  • Rules. Trading with yourself to inflate volume (wash trading) breaks Polymarket's terms, and airdrop designers usually filter it out.

Worked example. Buying and selling 1,000 shares at around 50¢ in a 5% fee category costs about 1.25¢ per share on each leg in fees, roughly $25 per round trip before any spread, to generate $1,000 of volume. Ten round trips a week is $1,000 a month spent on a reward that may never come.

If you trade on Polymarket because you have views on the markets, you are already doing whatever an airdrop might reward. If you are only farming, assume the token is worth zero until it is announced.

Polymarket airdrop scams to watch for

  1. "Claim POLY" sites. Fake pages, often promoted in replies on X or in Google ads, ask you to connect a wallet and sign a transaction. The signature gives a "drainer" permission to move your tokens.
  2. Fake support and DMs. Polymarket staff will not message you first offering an airdrop or asking for a seed phrase.
  3. Lookalike accounts and domains. Check the exact spelling of polymarket.com and the official @Polymarket account.
  4. Pre-sale and "early allocation" offers. There is no token to pre-sell.
  5. Fake bots and browser extensions promising to farm the airdrop for you, which steal private keys (how bot scams work).

If you signed something suspicious, revoke token approvals from a clean device and move remaining funds to a new wallet.

If a token does launch

  • Taxes. In the US, airdropped tokens are generally taxed as ordinary income at their market value when you receive them (taxes on prediction market winnings).
  • Location. Token claims are often blocked in the US and other restricted countries, as Polymarket's global site is.
  • Price. New tokens are often volatile in their first weeks.

Polymarket airdrop: frequently asked questions

Is there a Polymarket token?
No, as of October 2026. The chief executive has described plans for an onchain asset, but nothing has launched.

When is the Polymarket airdrop?
There is no date. Polymarket has not announced an airdrop or a snapshot.

Is POL Polymarket's token?
No. POL is Polygon's network token.

How do I qualify for a Polymarket airdrop?
No criteria have been published. Anyone claiming to know them, or asking you to connect a wallet to check, should be treated as a scam.

Could Polymarket do an IPO instead?
Reports in October 2026 said it was weighing an IPO against a token. See Polymarket valuation.
