You can delete a Polymarket account yourself, but only once it is empty. Polymarket's help centre says you must first close all open positions and withdraw all funds from your Polymarket wallet. After that, you delete the account from your settings at polymarket.com/settings?tab=account. Your profile and personal data are then deleted under Polymarket's privacy policy, but your past transactions stay visible on the blockchain.
Steps as of 30 October 2026, based on Polymarket's help article "How to Delete Your Polymarket Account," last updated 25 June 2026. The article covers polymarket.com; Polymarket US accounts are handled separately (see below).
Deleting a Polymarket account at a glance
| Can you delete it yourself? | Yes, from account settings |
| Before you start | Close all positions and withdraw all funds |
| Where | polymarket.com/settings?tab=account |
| What is deleted | Your Polymarket profile and associated personal data, under the privacy policy |
| What stays | Your transaction history on the blockchain; data the law requires Polymarket to keep |
| Polymarket US | A separate account: contact [email protected] |
| Help | Website chat, or [email protected] |
Before you start: a checklist
- Download your records. Save your trade history and any statements; you may need them for taxes.
- Note your wallet address and where you will send your funds.
- Check for pending reimbursements, for example after the October 2026 hack, before closing.
- Decide what to do with long-dated positions. Selling now may mean taking a worse price than waiting for resolution.
- Make sure you can log in. You need access to the account to close positions and withdraw.
- Tell your tax adviser if you had gains or losses this year; closing the account does not change what you owe.
Step 1: Close all your open positions
Polymarket will not delete an account that still holds positions. You have two ways to close them:
- Sell each position on the market, at the best price available. A limit order usually gets a better price than a market order in thin markets (limit vs market orders).
- Wait for resolution. If a market resolves soon, you can hold until it pays out; winning shares pay $1 each and losing shares pay nothing.
Check the Portfolio page to make sure nothing is left, including small positions in old markets. Polymarket's help article warns that "you will be unable to delete an account that is still holding positions or tokens and will be prompted to withdraw before proceeding."
If a position is worth less than the fees to sell it, selling at the best bid is still the quickest way to clear it.
Step 2: Withdraw all your funds
Once your positions are closed, withdraw your balance. On the global site, balances are held in pUSD, a dollar token backed one-for-one by USDC, on the Polygon network. You can withdraw to a crypto wallet or an exchange account. Double-check the address and the network before you send: transfers on a blockchain cannot be reversed.
Our guide to Kalshi and Polymarket withdrawals covers the options, timing and fees.
Withdrawal tips
- Send a small test amount first if you are withdrawing to a new address.
- Match the network. Sending to an address on a different network is a common way to lose funds.
- Allow for fees. Blockchain transfers and some exchanges charge small fees.
- Leave nothing behind. Polymarket asks you to withdraw all funds before it will delete the account.
Step 3: Open your account settings
Go to polymarket.com/settings?tab=account while logged in. Polymarket's help article links straight to this page. Independent guides describe the delete option as sitting in a section for sensitive actions at the bottom of the Account tab; the exact label can change as the site is updated.
Step 4: Delete the account
Choose the option to delete your account and confirm. If you still have positions or a balance, Polymarket will ask you to withdraw first.
Polymarket's help article does not say whether a deleted account can be restored, so treat deletion as permanent. If you might come back, consider simply withdrawing your money and logging out instead.
What happens to your data
Polymarket says: "Your Polymarket profile and associated personal data will be deleted in line with our Privacy Policy. Some data may be retained where required by applicable law or regulation."
Two things are worth understanding:
- The blockchain does not forget. Polymarket's global site settles on a public blockchain, so "your past transaction history will remain visible on-chain even after your account is removed," in the help article's words. Anyone who knows your wallet address can still see your trades.
- Legal retention. Financial platforms often have to keep some records, for example for anti-money-laundering rules, even after an account is closed.
If you want to know exactly what Polymarket holds about you, ask its support team before you delete. Ask in writing, keep the reply, and do it while you can still log in, since support teams usually verify requests through the account itself. Once the account is gone, proving that the data was yours becomes harder.
Deleting a Polymarket US account
Polymarket US, the CFTC-regulated app for US residents, is a different account from polymarket.com, with its own login, identity checks and US-dollar balance. Polymarket's deletion article does not cover it, and we could not find a separate help article for closing a Polymarket US account.
To close a Polymarket US account:
- Close your positions and withdraw your dollar balance to your bank.
- Email [email protected] and ask for the account to be closed. Polymarket's support page lists that address for the US app.
- Keep a copy of your account statements and tax documents before you close. Regulated US platforms may issue tax forms; our guide to Kalshi taxes explains how prediction market winnings are taxed.

Leaving after the October 2026 hack?
On 29 October 2026, attackers took about $2.7 million from 737 accounts on polymarket.com through a compromised third-party script (our report). Polymarket says everyone affected "will be made whole."
If you were affected and want to leave:
- Do not delete your account yet. Wait until your reimbursement has been processed, so there is an account to credit.
- Contact support through the website chat or [email protected] and keep a record of your messages.
- Ignore unofficial "refund" offers. Polymarket will not ask for your seed phrase or private key.
If you want a break rather than a goodbye
Deleting an account is one way to stop trading, but not the only one:
- Withdraw everything and log out, keeping the account dormant.
- Remove the app and saved logins from your devices.
- Use blocking tools on your phone or browser.
- Get support if trading has become a problem. In the US, the national problem gambling helpline is 1-800-GAMBLER.
Prediction markets can feel like investing, but losses are real. Our explainer on whether Kalshi is gambling discusses how they compare with betting.
Your data rights
Depending on where you live, data protection law may give you extra rights. Under the EU and UK GDPR, for example, you can ask a company to erase your personal data, with exceptions for records it must keep by law. Polymarket's own wording follows that pattern: personal data is deleted "in line with our Privacy Policy," and some data "may be retained where required by applicable law or regulation."
What no law can do is erase a public blockchain. Trades made from your wallet on the global site stay on-chain permanently. If privacy is your main concern, remember that a new wallet address is not linked to your old one unless you link them yourself, for example by sending funds between them.
Delete, deactivate or self-exclude?
| Option | What it does | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Delete the account | Removes your profile and personal data; permanent | Leaving for good |
| Withdraw and stay logged out | Keeps the account but empty | Taking a break |
| Blocking tools or support | Stops you from using trading sites | Getting control back |
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| "You still have positions" | Check Portfolio for small or old positions and sell them |
| "Withdraw before proceeding" | Withdraw your remaining balance, including small amounts |
| Cannot find the delete option | Go directly to polymarket.com/settings?tab=account while logged in |
| Lost access to your login | Contact support via chat or [email protected] |
| Polymarket US account | Email [email protected] |
Common mistakes to avoid
- Deleting before a refund arrives. If you are owed money, for example after the October 2026 hack, wait until it has been credited.
- Leaving small balances. Even a few cents of pUSD or an old position can block deletion.
- Sending funds to the wrong network. Always match the address and network.
- Throwing away tax records. Download your history first; you may need it after the account is gone.
- Expecting your trades to vanish. On-chain history stays public whatever you do.
